NoodleRice&Friends is a young internationally recognized artist collective founded by Yao Zhang and Liang Guo, both born and raised in west China and now are traveling and working between United States and China. NoodleRice was first formed as a film collective while both Yao and Liang were in Beijing Film Academy. They later expanded their interest in live performance during MFA study in California Institute of the Arts. Now NoodleRice works with both cinema and live performance, plus the area in-between.
2017 is a year of reformation for NoodleRice. They just finished their 2017 summer trip to Holland Festival as one of the invited artist guests, and their artist residency at the Watermill Center in New York in the fall. They are now busy preparing their debut show in China at UCCA, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in the winter in Beijing, and developing their new devised theater piece which is scheduled to be premiered in the summer of 2018.
NoodleRice’s work has been selected and shown internationally and nationally in the US and Europe, including: Watermill Center(under the artistic direction of Robert Wilson), Rabbithole as part of EOarts Performance Series 2016 in New York, SPACE gallery as part of the PAF(Performance Art Festival)2016 in Pittsburgh, Redcat, Automata, HomeLA event and Tongva Park in Los Angeles. NoodleRice’s work has also been selected into ManPower Art Festival in Lisbon Portagul , /re.si.lien.ce/Performing Art 3 Days in Florence Italy, the second Tier of Sundance Institute New Frontier Story Lab, and the finalist of Rapid Pulse International Performance Art Festival.
Besides working as a collective, Yao Zhang is also a set/production designer for stage and film, Liang Guo is a film director/cinematographer and a painter.
